Cheers Day is observed.
May 20, 1993
Thousands of people celebrate the last episode of the set-in-Boston television show by gathering in front of Bull & Finch Pub at 84 Beacon Street and in front of giant video screens that air the finale, “ne For the Road,” on Boston Common. First aired in 1982, Cheers became one of the most popular shows on television and featured cameo appearances by local politicians and sports figures. During the celebration, one fan declares, “It’s the end of an era. It’s part of Boston.”
